Breast Augmentation Recovery

Before embarking on going for a breast argumentation procedure you need be informed and prepared for the breast augmentation recovery, being informed before hand and being prepared can prevent complications afterwards.

Some basic things to do before you have your breast argumentation procedure:

  • About two weeks before the procedure you will need to have blood tests done. Your surgeon will need to check certain factors before he does the procedure to ensure that you are not anemic, or whether you bleed excessively, and other factors to be prepared for to prevent complications afterwards.
  • You will be asked what medication you are currently taking, and will be told to stop taking certain medications at least a week before, you must be honest with your surgeon and inform him of all medication you might be taking:
  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen (e.g. Advil, Motrin)
  • Any other drug that might thin the blood and prevent clogging.
  • Vitamins and herbal remedies. Or other OTC’s
  • Alcohol, at least 4 days prior to surgery, a week is even better for breast augmentation recovery.
  • Stop smoking, nicotine impedes blood flow as it constricts blood vessels. 
  • Make sure you are not pregnant.

Dependant on what your surgeon recommends you may spend the night before in hospital or have the procedure done as an outpatient, regardless of whether you spend time in hospital afterwards or go home immediately after surgery, post-operative care for breast augmentation recovery is vitally important to prevent complications arising.

When to return to work will depend on your job description, you might be able to return to work a week after surgery. If you your job involves any lifting, straining or bending then it’s best to delay returning to work before you are fully recovered for a full breast augmentation recovery.

  • Drink plenty of water, water not only helps keep you hydrated but also helps to flush out toxins.  
  • Get plenty of sleep and rest, sleep is nature’s best healer. Sleep elevated you will find it more comfortable. Rest will help speed up the breast augmentation recovery.
  • After a few days start walking, don’t over do it. And remember to make sure you are wearing your support bra when walking.
  • Don’t take aspirin or alcohol for the next 2-3 weeks as it can affect breast augmentation recovery
  • No lifting or picking things up including children and pets. Your family must give you time to health for the breast augmentation recovery period. Also beware of contact with other people such as hugs or been knocked on the tender areas, this can cause a rupture and delay healing.
